ELDC Required To Identify Land With Residential Development

Following advice from the Government’s Planning Inspectorate, East Lindsey District Council is appealing for land to be identified within the District which could be used for residential development.

Following a pre-submission review of its draft Core Strategy by the Planning Inspectorate, the Council was advised that to have a plan that is acceptable, the housing target for the District should be in line with future demographic growth and land that could accommodate that development had to be identified in the Plan.

The Council was also advised of the need to locate suitable Gypsy and Traveller sites in line with the need identified in the Council’s 2012 Assessment. The Council has therefore delayed submitting its draft Strategy to the Secretary of State until after this additional work has been undertaken.

The Council’s Portfolio Holder for Economic Regeneration, Councillor Craig Leyland, said: “The pre-submission review has given us two key areas in which we have to undertake more work to enable the Council to produce an acceptable Strategy.

“Clearly there is a need for both residential development as well as gypsy and traveller sites within the District, this need has already been identified. What we now need to do is identify suitable sites within East Lindsey. I would urge people to come forward to identify suitable land. All land identified to us will be assessed for suitability.”

To accommodate the anticipated housing growth for the next 15 to 20 years, the Council needs to identify possible sites for development in areas including Louth, Alford, Coningsby, Tattershall, Horncastle, Spilsby, Binbrook, Burgh le Marsh, Grainthorpe, Grimoldby, Manby, Friskney, Hogsthorpe, Holton le Clay, Huttoft, Legbourne, Mareham le Fen, Marshchapel, North Somercotes, North Thoresby, Sibsey, Stickney, Tetford, Tetney, Wainfleet All Saints, Willoughby, Woodhall Spa and Wragby.   

The Council also needs to identify sites within the District which can be used by Gypsies, Travellers or Showpeople.
